地獄絵 Hell Pictures

あちち～あちち～の８月１６日　pengは　川崎の安楽寺って～ことに　行ってきた。 仏教では　正月や盆の１６日に　地獄の鬼も　罪のある人達を　罰する仕事を　休むそうじゃ。　それで　これらの日を　「地獄の釜が開く日」と言うらしい。 この　pengが　行った安楽寺では　江戸時代に描かれた「六道地獄絵」という　１１点の絵を　公開するのじゃ。　そして　この日は　古くから伝わる「絵解き口上」というのを　pengの知り合いの　麻布十兵衛殿（芸名）が　なさるというで　見に行ったわけじゃ。 これが　十兵衛殿＆地獄絵で　ごじゃります～。　「絵解き口上」って～のは　この地獄絵の説明をしながら　仏教の世界を教えたりもするもんなんじゃが、　大道芸でも　あるわけじゃの～。　江戸時代の人々の考え方なども学べて　なかなかに　興味深いものであったの～。 このお寺では　年に２回　１月１６日＆８月１６日に　一般無料公開をされとるそうじゃで　興味があるかたは　のぞいてみては　いかがかの～。 しっかし　ほんに　地獄の釜で　ゆでられてるような　暑い日でもあったが　始めての体験を　たのしんできたpengであ～る（＾０＾）

Hoi! Hot! August 16th was a very hot day. Peng went to Anrakuji in Kawasaki city. According to the Buddhist way, on the 16th of January & August the oni who work in Hell take a break from punishing people who behaved badly in their life. So, these days are called “the day of opening the Hell pot”. This is Anrakuji, where Peng went to see an exhibit of 11 Hell pictures which are called “Rokudou Jigoku E (pictures of the 6 ways of Hell)” painted in the Edo era. And that day Peng’s blog friend Azabu Jyubei (stage name) was doing Etokikoujyou (prologuing pictures) in the traditional old style. That is why Peng went to this temple. Here is Mr. Jyubei & Hell pictures. Etokikoujyou (prologuing pictures) explain the situation of Hell to teach the Buddhist way, but it is also a street performance. Peng could learn about the views of people in the Edo era, so it was interesting. This temple does a free exhibition twice a year, January 16th & August 16th. If you are interested in this kind of art, how about visiting there? August 16th was a really HOT day, just like being boiled in the Hell Pot! But, it was a first experience for Peng, who enjoyed it!
